Jennifer “Jenn” Strater is an experienced engineering leader who is dedicated to community work and contributes to new and innovative technologies such as Spring REST Docs, Codenarc, Apache Groovy, and Gradle. Jenn made her career as a conference speaker at large events such as the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, SpringOne Platform, Devoxx Belgium, and many others. Videos of some of these talks are available on the 'my talks' list on her YouTube channel.
Her strong ties with the developer community including running the Groovy Community Slack Team, leadership experience within several organizations including as a founder of GR8Ladies (now GR8DI) and committee member for GR8Conf EU and US, and mentoring younger developers have prepared her for new leadership challenges.
She is currently leads the Developer Advocacy team at Gradle. From October 2018 - December 2019 she was based in Berlin, Germany and has now moved back to Minneapolis, MN. Previously, she was a Senior Software Engineer for Berlin-based Zenjob and from August 2016 until May 2017 Jenn was a master's student at the Technical University of Denmark(DTU) studying static analysis and compilers with a focus on Groovy with funding from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Prior to her return to graduate school, she worked for Object Partners, a consulting firm in Minneapolis, MN. She was also a software engineer at the healthcare communications division of Altegra Health in Minneapolis, MN. Other previous positions include web development at GroupDCA, a PDI Inc Company in Parsippany, NJ. For now, you will see her at tech events and conferences around Europe, but she hopes to return to Minneapolis soon.
